Family and friends and an intimate circle of those who have known and loved the Mother of Physicians, Zahira Abdin, Umm al Attiba', met to remember her in the heart and home of the medical profession in Cairo, Egypt, the Dar al Hikma, on June 24th 2002.  Dar al Hikma is the renown home and hub of the medical profession in Egypt, housing as it does, the medical syndicate.   Following the various tributes and exchanges, the meeting was graced with a slide show prepared by her son, Omar, summing up a lifespan and a trajectory... that all were invited to sustain... in a message that said: Let's keep the torch alight ... Pitch in and keep the good work started by Zahira over forty years ago, still strong and going...

To honor a memory and contribute our own miniscule share in upholding the legacy of a lifetime of  noble and selfless devotion to God and the Good, we hope to publish a commemorative volume and organize a symposium to mark the first anniversary of her departure to immortality.

For now, we would like to share with you, our visitors on the web, something of the material we will be developing... even as it stands now in its rudimentary form.  We may note that the general preview on her life history (Zahra Bio )includes a segment that gives a glimpse into another great life who in her own way left her mark  too on the world and on her profession (a gynecologist and pathologist) and who happened to pass away within the very week of Zahira's departure.  This woman was Fatma Abdin, the older sister, and the last of a generation and a family.  The memorial held on 24th June paid tribute to the two sisters... both of whom in a special way may be seen to have 'complemented' each other... and each of whom leaves posterity a model to emulate and take pride in:  two women scientists and distinguished professionals, each using her remarkable talents to serve in ways in which she was most blessed.  Fatma , a brilliant pathologist and gynecologist was dedicated more to her scientific vocation, personal life and career:  Zahira, in addition to her exceptional professionalism and career,  was even more dedicated to an unflinching public philanthropy that bound her lifespan to the community in the many ways that are only briefly previewed here below in "Foundations"
